- Reading
- Consider checking in before reading and at tense moments. The novel blends humour, horror and heart, so its shifts in tone may help open conversation about difficult material.
- Themes
- Conversion therapy and control: After Connor comes out, his mother has him kidnapped and sent to Nightlight Ministries, a camp intended to make him change. He plans to escape with the other teenagers. The book treats this strongly critically.
- Worth knowing
- The premise includes a teenager being kidnapped, forced into a conversion-therapy camp and placed in danger. It also mentions the death of an older man Connor delivered meals to.
