How Suitabook Works
Understand the book, consider your children, then decide how to approach it.
Start With the Book
Search by title, author or ISBN, or explore a topic. Public book guides explain why a book may be worth reading, what deserves attention, a conversation worth having and a suggested reading approach.
Browse the book guidesLook at Themes in Context
A theme label alone says little about a story. Friendship may involve loyalty or betrayal; a relationship may offer comfort while also causing harm. Contextual guides describe the particular situation and how the story appears to treat it.
Each theme has one portrayal indicator. It can show a critical, mixed or favourable treatment. A provisional reading stays outside that meter when the overall treatment is not established. A character enjoying something does not by itself mean the story approves. This is information for your judgement, not a moral score for the book.
Check Sources and Confidence
Open Sources & confidence beneath the guide for evidence and limitations. Guides can draw on publisher descriptions, synopses, detailed reviews and author commentary. Full access to the text and illustrations is not assumed.
A source may strongly support what happens while leaving its meaning open to interpretation. Confidence reflects the available context and coverage. Missing evidence does not prove that a topic is absent. Publisher ages are audience guidance, not a measured reading level or a guarantee of suitability.
Consider Your Children and Preferences
Sign in and choose one or more readers. The selection stays with you as you browse until you change it, clear it or sign out. Each child has an individual flag, explanation and Reading Plan.
In each child’s profile, Reading preferences lets you distinguish avoiding any depiction from avoiding a favourable or normalising portrayal. A critical portrayal never overrides an explicit choice to avoid the topic altogether.
Save preferences in the child’s profile. They inform Home recommendations and individual flags as you search and explore. The general book guide remains available without an account. Suitabook suggests an approach; you make the reading decision.
