About Suitabook
FAQ
Start by exploring a book. Add reader profiles when you want guidance that takes your children into account.
Select a heading to expand or close a section.
Do I need an account or a Reader Profile?
Not for general exploration: you can search, explore, compare books and read public book guides without an account. Sign in and create a Reader Profile for personalised guidance.
Can I choose books for more than one child?
Yes. Tap the children you want to consider in the reader bar. It carries across pages until you change it, clear it or sign out. Search and Explore show a family summary followed by each child’s guidance. Adding a book to a Reading Plan is still an individual action.
What do the family results mean?
Green flags suggest a way to explore the book, such as reading together. Orange flags ask you to preview, discuss or consider timing. Red flags indicate a preference conflict or a reason to choose something else for now. The words and explanation on each flag matter; none is a guarantee of suitability.
What does the portrayal meter mean?
It describes the apparent treatment of one theme or behaviour: critical, mixed or favourable. It does not score the whole book. A character’s attraction, a plot reward or a harmful consequence is not enough on its own to establish the story’s position.
A provisional reading stays outside the meter when the overall treatment is not established. Confidence appears separately beneath the indicator; sources and limitations are available below the guide.
Where do I set reading preferences?
Open Children, choose a profile and set Reading preferences. You can avoid any depiction of a topic, or only a favourable or normalising portrayal. Save the profile to apply these choices to recommendations and individual guidance as you browse.
Avoiding any depiction takes priority over how the story treats it. Missing or mixed evidence does not become an automatic all-clear. No preference means no request, not confirmed absence.
Is Suitabook just an age-rating service?
No. Age is useful context, but children of the same age can have different reading needs. Suitabook considers the individual reader alongside the book, and does not invent age or reading-demand information where it is missing.
Does Suitabook decide what my child should read?
No. Suitabook gives information and personalised guidance. It explains what you may want to consider rather than declaring books universally good or bad. The parent or guardian always makes the final decision.
What if the analysis is incomplete?
Check ‘Sources & Confidence’ and the guide’s limitations. Published insights can still have gaps, and a topic match alone does not establish age or reading suitability. Personal guidance stays uncertain when the evidence needed for that decision is missing.
Does Suitabook use AI, and can it get things wrong?
Yes. AI-assisted systems support Book Intelligence within structured evidence, evaluation and versioning controls. Automated systems can make mistakes, so explanations and uncertainty matter. Suitabook is not a substitute for parental judgement or professional advice.
Can I change or remove a child’s information?
Yes. Open Children, choose the relevant profile and edit it or use Remove child. Removal asks for confirmation because it also removes that child’s linked reading data. If two profiles share a name, check the date of birth and profile number before choosing one.
