- Reading
- Consider reading together or checking in after chapters where family questions become more pressing; let the child choose how much to discuss rather than asking them to relate it to their own life.
- Themes
- Clues and discovery: Macy follows clues about why her father is away, and her search becomes a journey towards discovering the truth. The story parcels out information through hints and a later reveal, making discovery part of the reading experience.
- Worth knowing
- Macy’s grandmother has died, and her father has been absent for months. These family losses and separations are central to the story rather than incidental background.
