- Reading
- As the series’ twelfth book, it may help to recap the earlier quest and introduce the three mages’ relationships before reading, then check in around the threatened friends and final battle.
- Themes
- Friendship and sacrifice: The mages must put everything they love on the line as they face a final chance to fulfil their destiny. The book’s stance on this remains unclear.
- Destiny and a second chance: The book addresses destiny and a second chance; the detail of how it is developed remains unclear. The setup raises questions about responsibility after failure, but does not show whether the characters accept or challenge their assigned destiny.
- Worth knowing
- The setup includes friends described as doomed, a ruling Dark Sorceress and an approaching battle. These signals suggest peril and suspense; the degree of on-page harm is unclear.
