- Reading
- Check in as you read: invite discussion of the sports rivalry first, then pause if the home or school difficulties raise questions for your reader.
- Themes
- Competition and choices: Oscar’s arrival unsettles Mike’s expected place on the team, and Mike’s decisions are said to have consequences beyond the line-up. The book’s stance on this remains unclear.
- Worth knowing
- Fighting, an ankle injury, difficulties at home and a sinister school situation are part of the story; their detail and intensity are unclear.
