SuitabookThe midsummer mouse

- Reading
- Try reading a little at a time and pause when the story shifts between the mice, Tiptoes, and Tom and June; this can help keep the separate mishaps distinct.
- Themes
- Parallel comic mishaps: The plot follows the mice’s cookie-related chase, Tiptoes’s search for a way to free two entangled beards, and Tom and June’s effort to hide an elephant. These separate comic problems build towards the Midsummer festival, giving the story a linked, ensemble structure.
- The Summer Queen’s disappearance: The Summer Queen appears at intervals, joins the festival, tells ‘The Tale of Turana’, and then vanishes mysteriously. Her appearances and disappearance add a mysterious element to the festival strand.
- Worth knowing
- The Summer Queen mysteriously vanishes after telling a tale at the festival.
