- Reading
- Consider reading together if the murder, threats, or possible fatal danger may be difficult; pause to check how the suspense is landing, and discuss Aileen’s choices as the mystery unfolds.
- Themes
- Aileen’s choice about the sea: Aileen learns that her soul is bonded to the sea and faces a choice between severing that connection at a painful cost or embracing a potentially dangerous legacy. The dilemma is clearly central, but the plot outline does not show how the book evaluates either option.
- Secrets and trust: Aileen grows closer to Jamie while suspecting he knows more about the murder than he says; his family and Aileen’s family are caught up in danger and secrets. The outline establishes secrecy and suspicion, but not how trust or disclosure is ultimately handled.
- Worth knowing
- The story includes a dead girl, a murder investigation, threats against Aileen’s family, attacks, and a possibility of fatal danger. The extent and detail of these scenes are unclear.
