- Reading
- Try reading a few chapters together first, then check in after action-heavy sections. You can pause to discuss the characters’ choices without needing to settle the story’s questions about reality.
- Themes
- Power and responsibility: A new foe has a power that can inflict deadly disease, and the heroes face difficult choices. The setup raises questions about how power and responsibility relate, but the summary does not show how the story ultimately judges particular choices.
- Reality and simulation: Malik investigates the Dark Watchers and whether reality may be an elaborate simulation. The premise invites questions about what can be trusted as real; the book’s answer or stance is not established.
- Worth knowing
- The story includes a power that can inflict deadly disease, peril to humanity and chapter headings referring to homicide and a trap. The degree of detail and intensity is unclear.
