- Reading
- Try a story in one of the different forms and see whether its style suits your reader. The collection’s short-story format also allows you to pause between stories and discuss each separately.
- Themes
- Baseball and taking part: The collection brings together fictional stories about different aspects of baseball; its introduction evokes both the excitement of attending a game and nervousness about being on the field. The collection is presented as celebrating baseball, but the stories may approach the sport in different ways.
- Worth knowing
- The book is framed around first-game excitement and the possibility of feeling nervous when a ball might come your way. How strongly those moments feature in the stories is not clear.
