- Reading
- Try reading a few chapters together, then pause to track what Qole and Nev each want and how their responsibilities shape their choices. This can help with the political and personal strands.
- Themes
- Power and responsibility: Qole sets out to stop an evil plan and faces leadership in a rebellion; Nev considers fighting for the throne to help her and her people. The characters face choices about leadership and political power as Qole takes on rebellion and Nev considers claiming the throne.
- Two intertwined conflicts: The story pairs a space-adventure conflict involving an attacked homeworld and a disputed throne with complicated feelings between Qole and Nev. Political danger and romantic tension give the characters both public and personal stakes.
- Worth knowing
- Conflict includes an attack on a homeworld, a murder accusation, rebellion and the possibility that answering a call could cost Qole her life. Romance is also part of the story.
