SuitabookMy mum
Beatrix Potter
- Reading
- Enjoy it together as a short illustrated adventure; pause to look at the pictures and let your child predict what might happen with the strawberries.
- Themes
- A gift for Mum: Peter wants to make his mum her favourite strawberry pie as a Mother’s Day gift. The plan frames thoughtful gift-making as a caring gesture, without implying that a present is required to show affection.
- The garden adventure: Peter, Lily and Benjamin try to gather strawberries from Mr Tod’s garden before the fox can use them for his own pie. The competing plans give the story its adventure structure: Peter and his friends are gathering strawberries while Mr Tod has his own pie-making plan.
- Worth knowing
- Mr Tod is presented as a sneaky, villainous fox who may put the strawberries into his own pie.
