- Reading
- Read one story at a time and let your child choose whether to continue or pause. You could begin with a tale whose title or detective-fiction label interests them.
- Themes
- A collection of dark and varied tales: The book gathers separate stories, including Gothic horror and detective tales such as “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “The Murders in the Rue Morgue”. The contents establish a varied collection of story types, rather than a single continuous narrative.
- Worth knowing
- The contents include horror and suspense, with story subjects involving murder, burial and death. Consider whether those themes suit your child’s current appetite for unsettling fiction.
