- Reading
- Browse the fact boxes and photographs alongside the chronological sections, then pause over the quiz or games. Compare the book’s celebratory claims with the recorded results and setbacks it presents.
- Themes
- Sporting identity and achievement: Manchester United is presented through its history, famous players and coaches, results, records, achievements and setbacks. The framing is strongly admiring and treats the club’s prominence and sporting achievements as central to its identity.
- History through notable individuals: The book tells the club’s story through past and current stars, a next generation of players, and famous coaches including Alex Ferguson and Matt Busby. Individuals appear to provide the main route through the club’s changing history, rather than the book offering only team-level statistics.
- Worth knowing
- The presentation celebrates the club’s prominence and achievements, while also mentioning its ups and downs. Discuss how sporting success, reputation and statistics shape the way a team’s history is told.
