- Reading
- As the ninth book in a series, it may be easier to follow with some familiarity with earlier character relationships. Pause when the plot shifts between Zoey, Rephaim and Aurox to track their separate stakes.
- Themes
- Aurox: weapon and person: Neferet has created Aurox as a weapon, while Zoey senses that he retains a human part and compassion. Aurox’s intended role as a weapon sits in tension with the compassion Zoey perceives in him.
- Worth knowing
- Expect suspense around Neferet’s plans, the threatened stability of the House of Night and whether Zoey can protect Aurox and others.
