- Reading
- Try a few chapters together or check in after the party episode; ask whether the humour makes the dating situations feel light, awkward or uncomfortable.
- Themes
- Dating by formula: Shane's purported formula guides other students' approaches to dating; when it becomes public, some partners feel manipulated. The plot uses the formula's spread and fallout to examine whether romantic relationships can be managed by rules.
- Worth knowing
- Romantic attraction and dating are central. A party episode involves Jak being very drunk, and one student is punched after hitting a girl with a tennis ball.
