SuitabookThe Werepuppy on Holiday
Jacqueline Wilson
- Reading
- Before reading, mention that the story includes a frightening video and a family disagreement. During reading, pause to ask how Micky might feel about Wolfie’s behaviour and exclusion.
- Themes
- Fear and unusual animals: Micky’s fear follows a scary werewolf video, while Wolfie is revealed to be a werepuppy. The book?s stance on this remains unclear.
- Attachment and family decisions: Micky chooses Wolfie, enjoys his company, and is upset when the family excludes Wolfie from the holiday. Micky’s attachment is presented as emotionally important, while the family’s decision is stated without enough detail to judge its reasoning or consequences.
- Worth knowing
- A scary werewolf video frightens Micky, and the story includes distress when Wolfie is not allowed on holiday. Wolfie’s wildness and mischief may merit a calm check-in.
