- Reading
- If the family secret or peril feels weighty, pause after a significant reveal and invite the reader to describe Amber’s feelings. Afterwards, compare the story’s versions of familiar fairy-tale characters.
- Themes
- Routine, freedom and enjoyment: Amber works hard, revises at home and cannot remember when she last had fun before her life changes. The book’s stance on this remains unclear.
- Technology and agency: Amber loves Computer Science and must use coding skills in a world containing skycraft, motorbikes and cyber critters. The book’s stance on this remains unclear.
- Reworking familiar tales: Fairy-tale characters appear in another world, and Little Red Riding Hood is presented as a boy. The book’s stance on this remains unclear.
- Worth knowing
- The rescue premise, a Wicked Witch and a tragic secret may merit a brief check-in, especially for a sensitive reader. The available details do not establish how frightening or emotionally intense these elements become.
