- Reading
- Try reading a poem at a time and pausing to notice how its rhymes shape the humour. Let your reader choose whether to explore the tributes or fantastical poems next.
- Themes
- Comic and fantastical characters: The poems include fantastical robots and dinosaurs, as well as a vegetarian comic premise. The book’s stance on this remains unclear.
- Tributes: The collection includes tributes to family members, children the poet has met, Shel Silverstein and hip-hop icons. Tributes are included, but their perspective and evaluative treatment are not established.
- Worth knowing
- Frightening babysitters and mean lunch ladies are among the comic scenarios. If those themes are sensitive for your reader, you may want to look at the relevant poems together.
