- Reading
- Read together or check in after the story’s relationship questions arise; invite your reader to weigh Ellynne’s assumptions against what she actually knows, without needing to settle the answer for her.
- Themes
- Appearance and popularity: Ellynne wants to be beautiful and popular, and loses weight as her hopes begin to come true. The overview connects weight loss with Ellynne's personal ideal of beauty, but does not show whether the story questions or endorses that ideal.
- Romantic boundaries: Ellynne is attracted to Kip, who already has a girlfriend, and wonders whether wanting to date him is right. The overview presents this as a question Ellynne faces; it does not establish what she does or how the story evaluates her feelings.
- Worth knowing
- Ellynne loses 30 pounds while pursuing her idea of beauty. A parent may wish to notice how this change is discussed and whether the story gives it wider context.
