Original Book on Book Dash: You! Yes You! (opens in a new tab)- Reading
- Read together and pause at each instruction so the child can choose whether to try it; turning the book upside down may work best with a stable, clear space.
- Themes
- Joining in and helping: The warrior addresses the reader as a helper and gives physical and spoken prompts throughout the adventure. The story treats active participation as part of the fun and celebrates the reader and warrior succeeding together.
- Imaginary danger and bravery: The warrior encounters bats, chasing hyenas and a monster, then challenges the monster and makes a scary face. The danger is framed as a comic adventure, but the book does not establish how a particular reader will feel about it.
- Worth knowing
- The adventure includes pursuit, a character apparently being eaten, and a confrontation with a monster; these are presented in a fantastical, comic style.
