SuitabookThe Port Chicago 50
Steve Sheinkin
- Reading
- Consider reading together or checking in around the explosion and the charges. Let the reader set the pace, and invite them to pause or return to the historical context when useful.
- Themes
- Racial injustice and protest: Black sailors face segregation and unequal conditions; fifty are charged with mutiny after refusing to resume work they considered unsafe and unfair. The book takes a critical view of this.
- Worth knowing
- Pay particular attention to violence and harm.
