SuitabookTrailblazer for the Sacred Heart
Pat Balskus
- Reading
- Read together and pause over the religious terms and practices. Let the child decide which ideas they would like explained further, without treating the book’s devotional invitation as an obligation.
- Themes
- Catholic devotion and missionary work: The opening describes Father Mateo preaching devotion to the Sacred Heart, encouraging home observances and inviting children to support missionary work. The opening positively endorses this religious mission and invites readers to join it; this is more than neutral explanation.
- Worth knowing
- The opening uses language about sin, families straying from God and saving sinners. It also encourages children to support missionary work through prayer and other religious practices.
