SuitabookSalah Rules
Simon Mugford
- Reading
- Read it as a shared football-and-biography activity: pause at the quizzes and career turning points, then compare the book’s heroic language with the less visible effort and support that success may involve.
- Themes
- Perseverance and setbacks: The book covers early setbacks and presents Salah’s progress towards the top of football as a journey involving belief, determination and persistence. The book presents this favourably.
- Sporting heroism and achievement: Salah is presented as a famous footballer whose career includes European success, Liverpool’s 2019 Champions League victory and African Footballer of the Year recognition. The book presents this favourably.
- Biography, facts and entertainment: The book combines facts about Salah’s life and career with cartoon artwork, jokes, quotes, commentary and quizzes. Its approach appears informational but deliberately lively and entertaining rather than a purely formal account.
- Worth knowing
- Consider whether the celebratory focus on achievement leaves room to discuss the work, support, setbacks and circumstances behind a public success story.
