Original Book on Let’s Read: Everyone Eats (opens in a new tab)- Reading
- Read the repeated lines aloud and pause before naming each food so your child can predict it from the picture. At the end, revisit the plant-versus-meat comparison.
- Themes
- Different foods for different animals: The story names foods for a cow, chicken, horse, elephant and lion, then distinguishes the lion’s meat from the plants eaten by the others. The ending presents the examples as a simple contrast in what the animals eat, rather than developing a broader argument about food.
- Worth knowing
- The lion is shown with a large red piece of raw meat. The picture is stylised, but its bold depiction may be worth noting if your child is sensitive to food imagery.
