SuitabookThe Hound of Ulster
Malachy Doyle
- Reading
- Read the encounter at a comfortable pace, then pause to talk about how the characters respond to what happens. This can help separate the action from its consequences.
- Themes
- A folk-tale retelling: The book retells a traditional Irish folk tale in which Setanta’s encounter with Culain’s dog precedes the king giving him the name Culchulainn. The retelling presents a traditional tale and links its central encounter to the name by which Setanta becomes known.
- Worth knowing
- Setanta fights and kills Culain’s guard dog, and Culain grieves for the loss.
