The Dragonsitter
Josh Lacey, illustrated by Garry Parsons
- Reading
- Read a few emails at a time and pause to inspect how the illustrations extend the written account. Afterwards, compare the dragon’s behaviour before and after the feeding solution.
- Themes
- Responsibility for an unpredictable pet: Eddie is left to care for his uncle’s dragon while the animal causes escalating disruption at home. The situation is treated as comic chaos, but Eddie’s pleas and worries also show that caring for an unsuitable animal creates genuine responsibility.
- Worth knowing
- Some scenes involve a rabbit being eaten, curtains catching fire, a damaged refrigerator and people fleeing. These incidents are presented as exaggerated farce; the emotional impact of the rabbit’s loss may still merit attention.
