- Reading
- Pause around technology and control and ask how the book presents it.
- Themes
- Technology and control: A device capable of transporting someone anywhere on Earth becomes the focus of a struggle for control. The premise raises questions about who should control powerful technology, but does not establish the book’s answer.
- Loss and responsibility: After their parents are killed, the friends are tasked with destroying the invention and later separated during their flight. The premise places grief and responsibility alongside the practical challenge of staying together; how these are explored is unclear.
- Worth knowing
- The premise includes the killing of the protagonists’ parents and repeated pursuit, with the friends facing what is described as a life-or-death attempt. These may make for an intense adventure.
