SuitabookThe elephant's tale
Lauren St. John
- Reading
- If the animal mistreatment feels upsetting, pause to discuss what the children discover and what happens to the elephants. You could also talk about what makes Martine distrust the ownership claim.
- Themes
- Wildlife and animal care: Martine cares about the reserve’s animals, and the children’s quest includes a group of mistreated captive elephants. The plot gives animal welfare a clear place in the adventure, but the broader treatment of conservation is not established.
- Prophecy and mystical healing: A local healer tells Martine that elephants will be part of her quest, while Martine has discovered a power to heal animals. These supernatural elements shape the adventure; whether the story treats them as spiritual belief, magic or something else is unclear.
- Worth knowing
- Martine has lost her parents, and the reserve faces a forced change of ownership.
