- Reading
- Browse together and use the index to choose a subject of interest. Pause at the more startling topics to check how they are presented and whether your child wants to continue.
- Themes
- A broad-ranging portrait of Africa: The book brings together subjects including Dogon people, Tuareg nomads, Nollywood, Egyptian tombs and wildlife. Its approach is a lively miscellany of cultural, historical and natural subjects rather than a single journey or continuous account.
- Worth knowing
- The topic list includes warriors, killer crocodiles, dictators, tombs, coffins and mummified animals. These are subjects to check in context if your child is sensitive to danger, death or unsettling imagery.
