- Reading
- Before reading, discuss what might make a competitive training environment feel isolating. During or afterwards, compare the value placed on individual powers with the practical importance of trusting fellow trainees.
- Themes
- Competition, belonging and cooperation: Sammy enters a headquarters where young trainees compete to prove their worth and qualify to contribute to the war effort, while he becomes isolated from peers. The book?s stance on this remains unclear.
- Worth knowing
- Expect sustained danger and conflict-related training, including holographic fighting simulations, stealth missions, war games and a mission that goes horribly wrong.
