Independence and teamwork

Ophelia prefers to work alone, while an inventor partner is assigned to help her with the caper.Exploratory / explanatory

How the book presents it: The story makes cooperation a practical challenge for an independent lead character, without establishing a broader moral lesson.

Talk about: What might Ophelia gain or find difficult in working alongside Oscar?

Why It May Be Worth Reading

The story sets Ophelia’s confidence and independence against a task requiring her to work with an inventor. That makes it a lively choice for readers who enjoy capers, gadgets and playful wordplay.

What Deserves Attention

The central adventure involves theft and plans to evade canine agents and a rival. The tone is presented as comic caper rather than realistic crime; consider whether that playful treatment suits your child.

A Conversation Worth Having

What do you think Ophelia values most about a caper, and whether working with Oscar could change how she approaches one?

Reading Approach

Try reading a chapter together and pausing over the puns or comic panels. Invite your child to explain which jokes or gadgets they notice, then let them continue independently if the pace suits them.
