Sammy must confront uncertainty and danger because further losses could affect his family’s sheep.
Sammy knows that his father cannot afford to lose more sheep, giving the mystery practical family stakes.
The creature is glimpsed only briefly before Sammy encounters it, while animal deaths and disappearances build uncertainty.
Consider reading alongside a child who is particularly affected by gruesome animal injuries, frightening creatures, nighttime danger or wartime air raids. The available outline does not show how intense or frequent these elements become.
This is a grounded book brief while Suitabook strengthens the analysis: another book-specific source is still needed; the book’s treatment of its main themes is not yet firm enough.
