Sam is grieving his mother’s death while trying to help a father who is not coping or is unwell.
Sam discovers that he has unusual powers and may have an inherited role connected with an ancient order.
Sam questions who is safe while Ish, Ish’s family and Goz become important companions in the adventure.
The story includes a mother’s death, an unwell or struggling father, terrifying journeys, powerful enemies and threats connected with magic.
This is a grounded book brief while Suitabook strengthens the analysis: the book’s treatment of its main themes is not yet firm enough; some draft conclusions still depend on unresolved evidence.
