William searches for John Diamond because of an apparent wrong committed by William’s father.
The story contrasts the city’s poor and criminal underworld with better-off people who are not always respectable.
The historical adventure combines an ominous, frightening atmosphere with humour and colourful or eccentric characters.
Some scenes and characters are described as frightening, ominous or drawn from the city’s criminal and impoverished margins. The family secret and an unexpected, shocking climax may merit checking in with a sensitive reader.
This is a grounded book brief while Suitabook strengthens the analysis: some draft conclusions still depend on unresolved evidence.
