Paul Kennedy - Author
A gentle, repetitive read-aloud built around Mr Sloth’s repeated hope of finding a suitable sleeping branch. The changing animal encounters and rhymes give the story a light, playful rhythm.
He’s quite good at climbing. He knows how to swing. But sleeping’s his favourite, favourite thing!

Sign in for personalised guidanceHow the book presents it: The ending presents the animals' welcome as a warm resolution to his search.
Talk about: What do the animals do that helps Mr Sloth feel welcome?
The illustrations help carry the action: children can notice what is on each branch before or as the verse explains why it may not work for a nap.
There are comic moments of possible animal danger: a giraffe might nibble Mr Sloth’s hair, and a snake is mistaken for a branch and gets a scare. The tone is playful.
What clues help Mr Sloth decide whether a branch will make a good bed, and how do the other animals respond when he keeps looking?
Read the recurring branch lines with a steady rhythm, pausing before each new animal appears. Invite your child to inspect the pictures and predict what might interrupt the nap.
