Zélie's concern about her father's silence drives her investigation into the locket and Snakestone.
Zélie has Indian and French heritage, and the story connects her movement between India and Paris with cultural and mythic elements.
Jules is a sewer-sweeper who initially makes an unexpected entrance, while readers are told he proves more than Zélie expects.
Expect a fast-moving quest with threatening antagonists, murky underground spaces, a cursed or magical jewel, and references to crime and possible death or misfortune. The intensity and ending may be worth checking in together if suspense is a concern.
This is a grounded book brief while Suitabook strengthens the analysis: some draft conclusions still depend on unresolved evidence.
