Elsie’s father hides worry, goes without food so she can eat, and tries to maintain her happiness after losing work and housing.
Pickles narrates the story and notices the father’s hidden anxiety, while adding comic observations about football and family life.
Pay attention to scenes involving job loss, hunger, relocation, poor living conditions, frightening neighbours and Elsie’s distress about her family’s situation.
This is a grounded book brief while Suitabook strengthens the analysis: some draft conclusions still depend on unresolved evidence.
