The Cruel Prince

Jude is ambitious and uses cunning, while the court’s conflicts involve deception and shifting power. This gives readers material to consider choices made under pressure, without a simple good-versus-evil frame.

The story includes the murder of Jude’s parents, sustained humiliation and bullying, fantasy violence, and coercion through enchantment. Faerie revels involve intoxicating fruit; romantic content includes kissing.

If Jude’s choices are troubling, what alternatives does she seem to have, and how does the story invite you to weigh survival against becoming powerful?

If scenes of humiliation or violence may be difficult, agree that your reader can pause and check in with you. You could also read the opening together, which establishes the family loss.
