Characters face questions about whether to remain loyal, patriotic or obedient when authority causes injustice.
Several characters are described as brave, kind, loving and protective, making difficult decisions while risking their safety.
The story involves social castes and civilians harmed because of their cultural group, while also questioning whether people should be reduced to their caste or background.
Pay particular attention to the intensity of harm: civilians and children are killed, characters are tortured or experimented on, and one person slowly suffers poisoning. Sexual content is briefly described, and insults include gendered abuse.
This is a grounded book brief while Suitabook strengthens the analysis: the current material supports only a cautious reading; another book-specific source is still needed.
