Why Birds Sing at Dawn

The bright, expressive birds and singing scenes give the story a warm, playful feel, while the dried rivers and Mama’s absence bring a note of worry. The contrast may prompt talk about how music connects characters.

Drought is shown through dry rivers and falling leaves, and the tree looks distressed. Mama’s departure and the children’s concern may feel sad or unsettling, though the story resolves with her return.

What do you think Yellow finds difficult about learning Mama’s song, and what might help Yellow keep trying?

Pause at the dry-land scenes and notice how the pictures show the change. When Yellow sings, invite your reader to follow the musical notes or join in with a made-up tune.
