Different views of a domestic mishap

The cat sees itself as neglected while eating fish scraps and later complains about the bath after making a mess.Exploratory / explanatory

How the book presents it: The satire uses the gap between the cat’s grievance and its own part in the mess to make differing perceptions its central comic idea.

Talk about: How does hearing the cat’s version affect your view of what happened?

Why It May Be Worth Reading

The cat’s self-pitying account offers a playful way to notice that people—or animals—can interpret the same situation differently. The humour also comes from the contrast between the cat’s complaint and the trouble it causes.

What Deserves Attention

The story includes rubbish sticking to the cat’s fur and an unpleasant bath, with the animal voicing its discomfort. Consider whether these messy, mildly uncomfortable moments suit your child.

A Conversation Worth Having

What might the cat think the household should have done differently, and how might another character describe the same events?

Reading Approach

Pause after the cat’s complaints and invite your child to retell the episode from another viewpoint. Keep the focus on what each character notices, rather than deciding too quickly who is right.
