The journal form keeps events close to Sami’s perspective. Readers looking for a romance-led story may find the relationship receives less attention than the ghost and family feud.

A ghost in Sami’s room and a longstanding family feud feature in the story. The feud involves teenage bickering rather than substantial fighting.

Try reading a few journal entries at a time, then pause to notice which strand is foregrounded: settling into manor life, the ghost, the feud or Sami’s feelings about Adan.
