Alidu's family visits the zoo

The simple, chronological action and family dialogue offer a clear route through the story. Pictures give readers animals and family scenes to notice alongside the short text.

The pictures show zoo animals, including a lion and an elephant, behind barriers. The story does not discuss why animals are kept in zoos or how they are cared for.

What do you think Alima and Abu noticed about the animals, and what would you want to ask the tour guide if you visited?

Pause at the animal pictures and invite your child to name what they recognise or notice. You could also talk together about what they would ask a zoo guide.
